Atlanta Braves trade for All-Star Nate McLouth

ATLANTA — The Braves acquired All-Star center fielder Nate McLouth from the Pittsburgh Pirates for three minor leaguers on Wednesday. This should help an anemic offense that ranks at the bottom in most offensive categories.

Atlanta gave up outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, one of their top prospects, along with pitchers Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke.

McLouth, who isn’t that well known because of playing in Pittsburgh is really a five-tool player. Last year he hit .276, had 26 homers and 94 RBIs. He also added a Gold Glove to the resume in 2008 and has one of the best teal percentages in the Majors. Since the start of the ’05 season, he has the best stolen base percentage (64 of 69) among all major leaguers.

Most people in tune with Major League Baseball feel the Braves practically stole McLouth here. Not only his production on the field but another great thing about this trade is Nate’s under contract through at least 2011, having signed a three-year, $15.75 contract in spring training. The deal includes a team option for a fourth year at $10.65 million, with a $1.25 million buyout.

Along with the signing of McLouth the Braves were busy making moves on Wednesday releasing former Cy Young Tom Glavine, and calling up the best pitching prospect in the organization in Tommy Hanson.

This should give the ball club a huge lift, but to think this will make them contenders in the NL East with the Phillies and Mets is a long shot.

Almost forgotten, Vince Young says play me or trade me…

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young hasn’t came out and said play me or trade me, but he’s damn sure implying it.

In an interview with Baltimore’s WMAR-TV, Young said if he doesn’t win back his starting job, he wants to move on.

Young said in the interview: “I definitely want to get back out there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and with the fans. At the same time, if them guys don’t want me to be in there, it’s time for me to make a career change for myself. Because the fact is I’m ready to play ball. If they’re not ready for me to play ball, then somebody is.”

After Young’s breakout rookie season that included a playoff birth and a trip to the Pro-Bowl he suffered a knee injury during the first game of the 2008 season. Veteran Kerry Collins stepped in and remained the starter for the remainder of the year, leading the Titans to a 13-3 record and the playoffs.

Not only did the injury set Vince Young back, but some off the field issues including the incident where he went missing and was later found in a horrible mental state of mind.

With the 2009 season approaching quickly Kerry Collins looks like the man calling the shots behind center. Titans coach Jeff Fisher said that Young would have to unseat Collins as the starter..

Mike Tyson and his family talk of the town yet again…

Mike Tyson is infamously known for his actions in and out of the ring. He has been the butt of many jokes with sayings like: “I’m just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!”

Unfortunately, there are no jokes this time…

Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter Exodus is on life support after she was found with her neck caught in a cord of a treadmill machine Monday.

Another family member of Tyson’s found her on a treadmill with her neck on a cable attached to the exercise machine at their Phoenix home.

Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR on Exodus as they rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was in extremely critical condition.

Police Sgt. Andy Hill is calling this a “tragic accident.” In reports Hill also went on to say: “Everything in the investigation pointed to an accident. There’s nothing in the investigation that revealed anything suspicious.”

At this time we will sit back and wait for more information to be revealed. In the meantime lets hope everything turns out for the better with Exodus.

Brett Favre taking the first step to playing again

Did we expect anything less from Mr. Favre? In Fact, I’m so not surprised by this I almost felt like not even writing a blog about it. But here goes…

Favre, at the age of 39 will meet with Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday to discuss surgery on his throwing shoulder. It’s rumored that Brett will be having the surgery later in the week.

It’s believed that Favre has a partially torn biceps muscle and the recovery time after surgery will be in the range of 6 to 8 weeks.

This report further indicates Favre’s intent to consider signing with the Minnesota Vikings despite announcing his retirement with the New York Jets after last season.

Again, this should not be a shock to any of us and it’s becoming a routine off-season event for us to report on.
